William Peter Pettinga, 91, of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord on Thursday January 5, 2023. He was born to the late Peter and Johanna Harms Pettinga in Grand Rapids in 1931. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Paauwe Pettinga; a granddaughter, Kerri Jo VandenBerge; son-in-law, James Townes as well as his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Joan Start Pettinga; his children, Debbie and Bob VandenBerge, Don and Pat Pettinga, Bob Pettinga, Bill and Meladie Pettinga, Carol and Mike Dykhouse, Joni and Mark Kaltrider, and Amy and Steve TenHarmsel; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Bill was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served in the U.S. Navy, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he was a member of The Gideons International, and was an avid wood carver. The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday January 12, 2022 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel followed by a service in celebration of Bill's life at 11:00 am.
