Apr 29, 1943 — Sep 24, 2023
William Andrus, 80, born in Detroit on April 29, 1943 passed away on September 24, 2023 after a long illness. Bill was a renowned, award-winning industrial designer known for the creation, development and implementation of the Steelcase Spectrum Coordinated Materials product line and the Soft Seating Line. He won many industry awards and had been recognized by industry leaders many times during his career. Bill also was a talented member artist at Grand Valley Artists of Grand Rapids.
Bill traveled all over the world and enjoyed mountain biking, kayaking, camping, hiking and being in the woods. He was an avid gardener and city-plot-farmer. His life-long dream of taking on new experiences led him to explore new ideas and perfect his epicurean skills.
He leaves his beloved wife of 40 years Kris, and sisters Jean (John) Dohring of Grandville, Michigan and Janet Lippincot of Seattle, Washington. Bill's family also includes 3 nieces - Kailee (Cory) Bartholomew and her two daughters; Ashley (Jeff) Seeb of Seattle, Washington; and Linnea (Zoe) Dohring of Anchorage, Alaska.
He will be remembered for all the heart and goodwill he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them. He was easy with a smile and trust. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity despite his physical frailties. He will be missed immensely.
A memorial celebration of life will be held in late October.
