Walter M. Monson, age 93, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Bernice (Stubson) Monson. Walt leaves behind his beloved wife of 71 years, Eleanor; her sons and daughter-in-law, Brian Monson (Temecula, CA), Wayne Monson, Dean and Nancy Monson; grandchildren, Michael and Bailey Monson, Scott and Michelle Monson, Justin and Danielle Monson, Eric Monson (San Diego, CA), Katie and Jacob Gorton; 7 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Pam Monson (Sarasota, FL); nephew, Jeff Monson (Ocala, FL); great niece and great nephew, Courtney and Tyler Monson. Walt served stateside in the US Army during the Korean Confilct. He taught woodshop at South High School for 10 years and then he was the Assistant Personnel Director for Grand Rapids Public Schools for 20 years before retiring at the age of 55. Walter enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, playing golf, and spending time with his family. A private family funeral service was held at the funeral home.
