Viola C. Hernandez of Grand Rapids, Michigan was called home to be with Her Lord and Savior on June 2, 2023. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Benjamin Hernandez. She is also survived by three children Sarahi Hernandez, Sandra (Thomas) Chippas, Benjamin (Tracy) Hernandez; grandchildren Abigail Hernandez, Alexander and Ana Chippas; three brothers and one sister; and many nieces and nephews.

She retired from Knape & Vogt Mfg. after thirty-four years of dedicated service in many roles. She was a lifelong teacher and was passionately involved in her parish, the Cursillo movement and supporting the migrant community. Viola relished her role as her grandchildren's Lala. She possessed an innate ability to make each of them feel special with her warm embrace, her infectious laugh, and her undeniable faith that they would climb every mountain before them. Her husband, children and grandchildren will always remember her smile, love, and prayers.

Her Resurrection Mass will be at noon on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 2750 Burton Street, SE with visitation at the church one hour prior, beginning at 11AM. Internment following Mass at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and EWTN Catholic Network.
