Thelma Maxine
Vander Weide
Jan 25, 1930 — Apr 6, 2025
Thelma Vander Weide peacefully went to be with her Lord with family present on April 6, 2025. Thelma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She loved going to as many sporting events as possible to cheer for her family members as they played their various sports – everything from basketball to volleyball. It didn't matter what the sport was or what level of play, she was there to support her loved one. She was known as a sweet, kind, generous lady with an extraordinary sense of humor. She saw goodness in everyone. However, if you played against her in Rummy 500 or Rummikub, she could be as competitive as anyone. She played for quarters and meant business. Her superpower was her ability to trash talk. But win or lose, she always had a smile on her face. Her favorite food was ketchup and she put it on everything! She didn't understand why everyone else didn't! She loved the Lord and attended services at Remembrance Church or at Breton Terrace where she had resided for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Roger, her parents Frank and Ruth Hendrickson, and her 8 siblings. She is survived by her three sons Dave (Jean), Steve (Yvonne), and Bob (Shelby), 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, April 15 at 11 AM at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton Street SE, with Rev. Todd Schmidt officiating. Interment is at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral chapel on Monday, April 14 from 4 – 7 PM and Tuesday, April 15 from 10 – 10:45 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grand Rapids Christian Schools.
