Obituary

Terry Louis Markham, a man who loved the Lord, a man of great humor, knowledge, and kindness, passed away on May 12, 2023, at the age of 82. He was born on October 18, 1940, in Conway, Arkansas, and grew up with a love for baseball that would stay with him throughout his life. Terry served in the US Navy on a destroyer for five years during the Vietnam War, and his dedication to his country was a defining aspect of his character. Terry was a walking encyclopedia when it came to baseball statistics, and his passion for the sport led him to coach and mentor young players throughout his life. He enjoyed leading bible studies and was always making people laugh with his quick wit and "dad jokes." Terry was married to Linda Markham on October 30, 1960, in Pleasant Valley, NY, and together they had five children: Patti and son-in-law, Dan Vierthaler of Billings, MT; Debi and son-in-law, Bryan Hepworth of Pentwater, MI; Kelly and son-in-law, Mike Schroeder of Coursegold, CA; Jeff and daughter-in-law, Firda Markham of Bali, Indonesia; and Kathy and son-in-law, Bryan Whitehead of Berkeley Springs, WV. Terry was a hero to his grandchildren, Kyle and Kortney Vierthaler, Eric Vierthaler, Aaron and Nicole Hepworth, Lily Hepworth, Kirani Markham, Ben Markham, Kevin Johnson, Charles Johnson, Caleb, Ryan, and Breanna Whitehead, and his great-grandchildren Quinn, and Cohen Vierthaler, Renee Hepworth. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Sharon Markham, and sister Barbara Jean Morris. Terry was a kind and compassionate man, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His love for his family was unwavering, and he leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and dedication to others. A graveside service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, where Terry will be laid to rest with military honors with Pastor Les Wiseman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breton Rehab Living Center in Terry's honor where he received kind and compassionate care for the last three years. Terry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
