Obituary

Susan Loretta Hengstebeck, known affectionately by all as Sue, was born on March 26, 1946, in Romulus, Michigan. She was the beloved daughter of Peter and Leona Glaab and a cherished sister to Jack (Gloria), Marie (Bo), Anita (Mike), Peter (Judy), Patricia (IHM), and William (Joanne). She is survived by her husband, Charles/Chuck, to whom she was married for 53 years. After a life well-lived and surrounded by the love of her family, Sue passed away in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

She was a beloved mother to her three children, Marylee (Steve), Jane (Gary), and Charlie (Jena). Sue's love and care extended to her six grandchildren, Nicholas, Ellen, John, Mya, Jackson, and Graham, who will always remember their grandmother playing with them as children and taking the time to talk with them as teenagers. Sue was very close to her nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law on both sides of her extended family, and she loved nothing more than visiting with all of them.

Sue is also survived by many close and loyal friends, who kindly supported her in her later years. Sue worked as a long-time librarian and dedicated volunteer at St. Stephen School. She was a dedicated professional, serving as a longtime secretary for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of the State of Michigan. Her colleagues admired her for her attention to detail, kind smile, and strong work ethic. Her diligent service left an indelible mark on the office and all who had the privilege to work with her. In her retirement years, Sue volunteered her time as a literacy tutor and with many other charitable organizations in her community.

Beyond her professional life, Sue had a deep love for life's simpler pleasures. She was an avid puzzle and crossword enthusiast, often found with a pencil in hand and a crossword grid in front of her. She enjoyed taking walks, appreciating the beauty of nature, and spending time with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
