Stuart D. De Jong, 90, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 13, 2023.

Stuart was born on March 27, 1932, and adopted by the late Dewey and Winnie (Bouma) De Jong of Grand Rapids. On June 5, 1952, he married Jean (Tilma) De Jong. Jean preceded him in death as well as a sister Thelma (De Jong) Oppenhuizen, sons David De Jong and Mark De Jong, and grandson, Josiah Youngen.

Stuart is survived by his children, Daniel (Nancy) De Jong, Joel De Jong, and Janna (Fred) Youngen; grandchildren Angela (Joel) McJones, Matthew De Jong, Michelle (Andrew) Kucera, Joshua Youngen and Maria Youngen; and great grandchildren, Kayla, Robert, Madelyn, Gabriel, and Oliver.

Stuart was a caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He served in the United States Army from 1952-54, sang with the Stuart Noordyk singers, served in the church through various Board positions, and AV ministry. He was instrumental in outfitting the first Emergency Response vehicles in Grand Rapids and started a business in the medical electronics industry that operated until just after his retirement. He loved woodworking, flying his airplane, and volunteering as a handyman. He enjoyed drinking coffee with family and friends, and never lacked for good conversation, a ready smile, quick wit and a random song he would whistle as he worked. He loved his family and loved life. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 2-3pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Funeral Services will immediately follow. A livistream of the service may be viewed at zaagman.com.  A private family interment service will follow at a later date.
