Shelley Lynn
Vandyke
May 3, 1956 — Jul 1, 2025
Shelley Lynn VanDyke, age 69, was unexpectedly called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Shelley was a beloved wife, mother, and friend whose warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Second only to her love for family and large community of friends was her love of traveling and the outdoors. She was a world traveler who loved exploring new places. Whether spending her summers in Michigan, or her winters in Arizona, she spent much of her free time enjoying the natural world. She was an avid traveler who was always planning her next trip.
Shelley will be remembered for her strong faith, unwavering love for her family, and the grace and care she extended to others throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Maxine Hiemstra, her father-in-law Albert VanDyke and by her niece Rebecca Hiemstra. She is survived by her loving husband Randy and by her two sons Bob (Jen) VanDyke and Nick VanDyke (partner Gus Schissler); brothers Bruce (Loris) Hiemstra, and Brian (Ruth) Hiemstra; and by her sister Sharon Hiemstra (husband Eric Craymer).
A memorial service celebrating Shelley's life will be held at the Calvin University Chapel on Tuesday, July 8th at 11 AM. Visitation will take place at the Woodlawn Ministry Center on Monday, July 7th from 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodlawn Christian Reformed Church or to Arizona State Parks and Trails, www.azstateparks.com, (specify Lost Dutchman State Park, her favorite hiking locale in Arizona).
