Ruth Lois Sutherland, a free spirit with a heart of gold, was taken from us too soon at the age of 72. She passed away peacefully at her home in Holland, Michigan, on October 23, 2024.

Born to Shirley and Gerard Knol in East Grand Rapids on November 24, 1951, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Aleda Knol. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Knol-Curran, Tiffany (Mark) Reifsnyder, Aimee Sutherland, Clarissa Cipcic, and Allesha Sutherland (Nick Carreon); her grandchildren, Chase, Rachel, Ben, Timothy, Solomon, Becca, Hannah, Sophia, Charlie, Patriot, Kayliana, Ezekiel, and Adeleigh; her sister, Janet (Jim) Southall; her brother, Jody (fiancée Judy Kabodian) Knol; three nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.

For the past three years, Ruth found joy in her home, which she lovingly called "her happy little cottage." She cherished having her grandchildren over for visits and sleepovers, always ready with special snacks and sweets, especially her favorite, Twizzlers.

Ruth was a cherished member of her community, known for her warm and welcoming nature. She had a passion for meeting new people and establishing relationships while selling products and goods at various markets and tractor shows. Her ability to collect friends was a testament to her vibrant personality and generous spirit. A fierce and loving mother, Ruth was always there when needed most. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Please join Ruth's family for a funeral service at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 26, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE) with Pastor Paul Stuart officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends for visitation from 10-11 am, prior to the service.
