Ruth May Brouwer, age 96, passed away on April 13, with her children at her side. She joined the love of her life, Jack Brouwer, with whom she had been married for 66 years.

Ruth was born on May 23, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, and she devoted her life and gifts to her family and her church. She enjoyed world travel, reading, photography, gardening, and spending time at Lake Michigan. She was an active member of the Ladies Literary Club and the Marian Louise Withey Guild of Blodgett Hospital.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, George and Minnie Wieland, a sister (June Weemhoff), and a son-in-law (Donald Sloat). She is survived by her children, Linda Sloat, Douglas Brouwer (Susan DeYoung), and Wendy Mersman (James). She had five grandchildren – Amanda Sloat, Molly Sloat, Sarah Brouwer, Elizabeth Brouwer, and Brian Mersman – as well as six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to Faith Hospice.
