Roy E. Vandenberg, age 96, of Grand Rapids and Holland, was called home to heaven on Thursday, May 19, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma (Pray); his son, James; and parents, Bert and Dorothy (Rypkema). Roy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Rick Noorman; granddaughter, Emily Vandenberg Moss (of Texas); nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Roy served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He, along with his father, son and nephews ran Vandenberg Jewelers. Roy was an active member of LaGrave Ave CRC, Fellowship Reformed Church (in Holland) and Alger Park Church. He served in the Optimist Club for 61 years and was a Kid's Hope mentor for 18 years. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 25 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE) with Rev. Sam Gutierrez, Rev. Dr. Stephen De Wit, and Rev. Jim Baar officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends during visitation on Tuesday, May 24 from 5-7 pm at the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
