Robert John
Maring
Jun 22, 1926 — Nov 30, 2023
With deep love and confident assurance, we announce the passing of Robert J. Maring to his new home in Heaven. He was born on June 22, 1926, in Muskegon, MI, to Albert and Susan Maring. He is missed by his children, Hal (Joyce) Maring, Tami (Ed) DeJong and Carla (Mark) Hooyer; and his grandchildren Jamin (Amy) DeJong, Luke (Colleen) Maring, Marita (Kevin) Damghani, Miriam Maring (Lal) Kottu, Andra (Joel) Slabach, Benham (Renee) DeJong, and Kira Hooyer; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Lois Bishop and brother-in-law Russ (Sue) Sholten and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by Marilyn, his wife of 54 years, grandson Cameron Hooyer, and six siblings.
Bob graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Electrical Engineering and embarked on a distinguished career as an aerospace engineer. His life was characterized by his service to others: he served in the Army in WWII; served his church in various capacities; sat on Christian school boards; and fixed almost anything broken for his neighbors, friends, and family.
We will miss his love of adventure in boating, fishing, skydiving, and games of all kinds. His quiet competitiveness was always engagingly present in bowling, billiards, cards, and horseshoes.
Bob was a devoted family man. He cherished the time spent playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He imparted wisdom to his children, and created loving memories that will be treasured always.
Bob's deep faith was the cornerstone of his life. A student of the Bible, he lived his beliefs through his actions, showing kindness, compassion, and love to those he encountered. His relationship with the Lord was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life and during his final days. His example of loving service, integrity in all things, and logical reasoning will be a guide and inspiration to those he left behind.
A service of celebration will be held Thursday, December 7th at Thornapple Covenant Church, 6595 Cascade Rd., Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Visitation will begin at 1 pm followed by the Memorial Service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory can be given to Holland Home Residence Assistance Fund.
