Robert
Duprey
Apr 20, 1943 — Jul 20, 2024
Robert Perry Duprey, aged 81, of Middleville, MI, passed away on July 20, 2024, due to complications from cancer. He was born on April 20, 1943, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Ted and Marie Duprey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his younger sister, Alice. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend, who lived a full life marked by a quiet, but steadfast, dedication to his family, service to his community, and a passion for learning.
Bob graduated from Godwin Heights High School after which he joined the Coast Guard. There he honed his technical skills, laying the foundation for a career as a computer technician with IBM, followed by teaching electronics at ITT Technical Institute. Bob was a boy scout and later served as a troop leader. The scouts and his children will remember his enthusiasm for the great outdoors and being Scout prepared for camping trips
Surviving Bob is his devoted wife of 59 years, Kathy Duprey, his loving children and their spouses, Jeff (& Juli) Duprey, Sherry (& Keith) Dine, and Stephanie (& Istiaq) Mohammad, and his five grandchildren, Nathan & Hannah Duprey, Ashley & Lucas Dine, and Rohini Shams.
In retirement, Bob found joy in the tranquility of gardening alongside Kathy. He was an active member of the Thornapple Garden Club. He was a largely quiet man until you happened upon one of his many hobbies, such as gardening, woodworking, model trains, stamps, or history.
He was often found with a book in hand, engrossed in the narratives of the Revolutionary War through to the end of WWII. Bob's travels with Kathy, especially to historical sites, were adventures that fed his endless curiosity and desire to learn.
Above all else, Bob was a man of quiet duty. In honoring Bob's life, we reflect on the words he lived by: to always be curious, to be of assistance when you met someone in need, and to approach life's challenges with a balance of attention and acceptance. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those he touched. Rest in peace, dear Bob, your memory will forever be a beacon of light from the lighthouse that was your life.
Interment at Rest Lawn Memorial Park. A private family service was held Friday, July 26, 2024 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel.
