Robert John Bouman, known to many as Bob, was born on September 15, 1941, in Holland, Michigan, and he passed away on July 31, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a life marked by faith, humor, intelligence, and deep love for his family and friends.

Bob received a bachelor's degree in education from Calvin University and later earned a master's degree from Michigan State University. He began his career teaching high school mathematics, where his patience, knowledge, and sense of humor surely helped him. After teaching, he became an insurance agent until his retirement at the age of 58. He worked hard, lived responsibly, and understood the value of doing a job well.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Bouman; his parents John Bouman and Wilma Por; and by his sisters Elsa and Jane. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Gauthier and Dana (Aaron) Glick. He also leaves behind his grandson, Zach Bouman, who brought him great joy. Bob is also survived by his sister, Susan (Gerry) Wray; his brother, John Bouman; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Jan Keessen.

Bob enjoyed traveling, fishing, chopping wood, reading, FreeCell, and Sudoku. Whether he was solving a puzzle, casting a line, or chopping wood, Bob approached life with energy and a good-natured sense of purpose. He knew how to make the most of each day God gave him.

Bob's life was a blessing to those around him, and his memory will continue to bring smiles, gratitude, and comfort. Though he is no longer with us here, he is now reunited with Kathy and in the presence of his Lord.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, at Cascade Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 6655 Cascade Rd. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. The family will greet friends at the church on Thursday, August 13, from 5 to 7 p.m.
