Phyllis Joan Utley, 95, went to be with her Lord on July 17, 2025. She is predeceased by her parents, Golda and Sydney Cornhill and daughter, Rebecca. Surviving relatives include her husband, Kurt, children Craig (Judith), Lisa (Steve), Wendy, and grandchildren Christopher, Daniel, Victoria, Genevieve and Giselle and brother, Harold Cornhill.

Phyllis was born in Plainwell, Michigan, attending Plainwell Public schools and later attended and graduated from Michigan State in 1952. She married Kurt, whom she met at MSC (now MSU) and they moved to New Jersey then later to Massachusetts. She was active in the church, singing in the choir, working with various groups like Pioneer Girls and Mom-to-Mom. She enjoyed handcrafts such as knitting, crochet, and sewing. She worked as a paraprofessional and also did various administrative jobs throughout her life. After retirement, she and Kurt moved to Grand Rapids to be near the grandchildren and back to their Michigan roots. They constructed a home and were active at Calvary Church for many years.

Phyllis's life will be celebrated at a service at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2025, with visitation one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed in memory of Phyllis to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship or Mel Trotter Ministries.
