Phyllis Jean Groenhout, 96, of Grand Rapids, peacefully passed away on Thursday July 7, 2022, in the arms of her daughter while residing at Railside Assisted Living, who provided loving care to her in her twilight years. She was born to the late Harold and Dorothy Brummel on November 5, 1925, in Grand Rapids, MI. Phyllis graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School in 1944 and received a secretarial degree from Davenport Institute. She married the late Edward Groenhout in 1949. Phyllis is survived by six children: Laurie (Paul) Theule, Douglas (Kathy), Brian (Angela), Mark (Celia), Todd (Ruth), and Blake (Karen). She also had the joy of 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was predeceased by her loving husband Edward, her grandchild Swen, and great-grandchild Daniel. Phyllis loved to spend time with her family of whom she was immensely proud and had many great travel adventures as well. With her children grown, she spent years working at Hudson's Department Store which she thoroughly enjoyed.  In retirement, she became an avid gardener and transformed her yard into a beautiful oasis. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 14, at 11:00 AM at the Woodlawn Ministry Center (3190 Burton St. SE, 49546) with a light lunch to follow.
