Obituary

Nancy Louise O'Leary, 85, of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, May 3rd, 2026.

Nancy was born in Fremont to Harold and Marion (Drenth) Lubbers.

Nancy dedicated her career to caring for children as an LPN and pediatric nurse at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, where she faithfully served until her retirement.

Known to many as "Fancy Nancy," she was fiercely independent and truly one of a kind. Nancy was an incredible artist, writer, master gardener, antique enthusiast, talented photographer, and savvy stock investor. She had a gift for turning ordinary moments into adventures and loved documenting life through photographs, handwritten captions, letters, stories, and songs. Her family treasures the thousands of snapshots and memories she carefully preserved throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Robert J. O'Leary, who passed away in 2017; her stepson, Robert R. O'Leary; and her brothers, Kenneth R. Lubbers and James D. Lubbers.

She is survived by her stepdaughters, Michelle Theile and Sonia Clem; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Jean L. Herre of Colorado and Jack D. (Sherry) Lubbers of Fremont; her sister-in-law, Marcia M. Lubbers of Fremont; nine nieces and nephews; twenty-two great-nieces and great-nephews; and four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Nancy will be laid to rest beside her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery.
