Miguel
Moore
May 15, 1938 — Nov 24, 2024
Miguel Moore, born on May 16, 1938, in Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, Cuba, to Conrad and Fedora (Brooks) Moore passed away November 24, 2024. The eldest of seven children, Miguel shared a unique bond with his twin sister, Martha (Moore) Walwyn.
When Miguel was 14, his father passed away, leaving him to shoulder responsibilities as a steadfast helper to his mother and younger siblings. In 1961, Miguel made the brave decision to leave his homeland with his younger siblings and reunite with his mother and twin sister in Brooklyn, NY. Shortly after settling in NY, fate and his twin sister's wedding, brought Nora Barreiro into his life. Two years after walking down the aisle at Martha's wedding, Miguel and Nora walked down the aisle at their own on September 15, 1963. Their first son, Javier, was born in 1964, followed by Arnold in 1967. In 1971, Miguel and Nora moved to Grand Rapids, MI, where Miguel's sister Martha, had settled. It was in Grand Rapids that they welcomed their two youngest children, Milton and Leyda.
Miguel was a man of many talents, but his greatest passion was cooking. In 1975, he realized a lifelong dream by opening the first New York-style pizza restaurant in Grand Rapids, alongside his sister Noemi and brother-in-law Fausto.
Miguel worked for Steelcase, Inc. for many years, retiring in 1999. After retirement, Miguel and Nora relocated to Mount Dora, Florida, but their deep connection to Michigan eventually drew them back. In 2018, they moved to Georgia with their daughter.
Miguel's life was defined by his unwavering faith and dedication to service. He shared the love of Jesus with everyone he met. Miguel's home was always open, offering a delicious Cuban meal and a place of respite to anyone in need.
In 1972, Miguel, alongside his wife and sisters, helped establish the first Spanish Seventh-day Adventist group in Grand Rapids. That small group grew into a thriving church, which in turn led to the formation of several more congregations throughout West Michigan. Miguel's enduring impact will continue to inspire generations to come.
Miguel loved music. In Brooklyn, he recorded an album with a quartet he formed with his brothers Joseph "Jojo" and Benny and friend Raul Perez called the King's Messengers. After Miguel moved out of NY, he continued to sing bass in multiple quartets and choirs. He passed on his love of quartet music to his children and grandchildren. Miguel's other hobbies included watching baseball and playing dominos.
Miguel is now resting, awaiting the glorious day when he will hear the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
Miguel was preceded in death by his parents: Conrad and Fedora Moore, his brothers: Joseph and Bernardo Moore, and his wife of 60 years, Nora Moore.
He is survived by his sisters Martha Walwyn, Elsie (Roderick) Williams, Noemi Diaz, brother Benjamin (Rosa) Moore, his beloved children: Javier, Arnoldo (Yaritza), Milton, and Leyda; his cherished grandchildren: Michael, Ruben (Lindsay), Aniza, Sayra, Karina, Alejandro, Alexis, Roberto, and Gabriel; and his precious great-grandchildren: Jason and Nora. Miguel's legacy also lives on through countless extended family members and the many lives he touched with his love, generosity, and faith.
