Michael E. Oatis went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 18, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Ann. He is survived by his children Angela (Bruce) Elder, Michael Paul (Susan) Oatis, and Stefanie (Chad) Ackermann; and his grandchildren Gunnar (Maria) Elder, Hannah Elder, Jonas (Brianna) Oatis, Shamus (Brooke) Oatis, Rachel (Brady) Griffith, Sophie (Jack) Elwell, Zeb Oatis, Oatis Ackerman, Ian Oatis, and Holly Oatis.

Michael cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, often preferring to sit at the kids' table during family holidays. He had a passion for wood carving and, while he had a fulfilling career, his most treasured role was teaching Bible Study Fellowship for 21 years. It was truly his joy and privilege.

Michael was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying football, basketball, and weightlifting. He had a remarkable sense of humor, keeping those around him laughing and smiling until the very end.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Holland Home's Breton Ridge (2772 Pfeiffer Woods Dr. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512) on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Adam Anderson and Chaplain Les Wiseman officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Michael's name to Holland Home – Resident Assistance Fund or New Heart Church.
