Obituary

Michael James Marotta embraced life. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 14, 1942, he attended St. Edmund Catholic School in his formative years and always spoke fondly of New York. He was a devoted son to his parents Jean and Anthony Marotta and cared for his mother during her own battle with cancer in Stuart, Florida. Mike and his wife Susan enjoyed traveling and went on many cruises over the years to different countries. He learned to scuba dive, so he could explore the ocean while on trips. Mike was a motorcycle enthusiast and used his love of motorcycles for good. He rode regularly for years with the Patriot Guard of Minnesota, a nationwide group dedicated to honoring fallen soldiers and their families. It was an important honor for him in his life to remember the soldiers, police officers and first responders that were killed in the line of duty. Mike was a lover of all music, especially the music of Elvis Presley. He was a good husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend and was very proud of the accomplishments of his two children and grandson. He had an easy smile and laugh- a great guy to have a beer with. He will be missed by many, but none more than his wife Susan Howe and his children Anthony and Michelle. After a long battle with cancer, he died peacefully on October 10, 2022, at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods. He is survived by his wife Susan Howe, his son Anthony Marotta and son-in-law Daniel Foley Cordero of Peoria, IL, his daughter Michelle Hager, son-in-law Brad Hager, and grandson Ethan Hager (17) of Greenville, SC, his brother Frank Marotta of Tampa, FL numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial will be held at Zaagman Memorial Chapel in Grand Rapids, MI, on November 5th at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Spectrum Hospice (750 Fuller Ave NE Grand Rapids MI 49503) or Faith Hospice (2100 Raybrook St SE STE 300 Grand Rapids, MI 49546) in Michael's name.
