Michael Spencer
Breen
Jan 29, 1945 — Jun 11, 2026
Michael Spencer Breen, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Mick shared an extraordinary 60-year marriage with his beloved wife and life partner, Barbara Breen. Together, they built a family centered on love and togetherness while creating countless memories with family and friends. For the past 27 years, one of their greatest joys was spending January and February in Aruba, their happy place, and a cherished tradition.
Mick embraced life with enthusiasm and took pride in everything he did. He loved tending to his yard and gardens. His beautifully maintained lawn and vibrant flower beds reflected the care and dedication he poured into his home. He enjoyed boating with family and friends, entertaining those he cared about.
Mick was a proud veteran, honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War. His patriotism never faded, and he carried a deep love for the red, white, and blue throughout his life. He was an active member of the American Legion Grand Haven Post #28, where he proudly served on the Perch Team. He also treasured the friendships he made at the White Lake Eagles #3214, Mona Lake Boating Club and Freedom Boat Club.
Above all, Mick's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who welcomed everyone with warmth and kindness. He never referred to his sons-in-law as "in-laws", to him, they were simply sons and cherished members of the family.
Mick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Breen; his children, Paige and Steven Kelly and Stephanie and Scott Miller; his grandchildren, Ashleigh and Nate Fields, Connor and Emily Kelly, and Ryan and Morgan Kelly; great-granddaughter, Madden Fields; and his sisters, Sue Ann Clark and Sharon Lacroix.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Breen and George and Norma Melms.
Mick will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his generosity, his patriotism, and his ability to make every gathering feel like a celebration. Whether in his garden, with friends, or surrounded by those he loved most, he lived a life rich in purpose and connection.
His legacy will continue to bloom in the gardens he tended, sail on the waters he loved, and live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Though he enjoyed his garden flowers, Mick also felt the need for charitable giving. If you choose to honor his life with a charitable gift, please consider Faith Hospice who made his last moments comfortable, the American Legion Grand Haven Post #28 or a charity of your choosing.
