On August 27, Mary Kaye Ippel went to join her parents, John and Dora Achtyes, and her beloved sister Betty in heaven. Born in 1949 and raised on Grand Rapids west side, Mary graduated from G.R. Christian High School and then got her bachelor's degree from Calvin College. She and Thomas Ippel married in 1971 and lived in Detroit while Tom completed his graduate degree. They moved back to Grand Rapids in 1981. Mary was an incredible weaver, starting with classes at the Threadbender and eventually winning awards with the Michigan League of Handweavers. She was active in the Woodland Weaver's Guild and made many friends while inspiring new weavers. In their 60's, Mary and Tom travelled extensively, touring countries in South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe. Mary leaves behind her beloved husband Tom, son Josh (Lindsey Caplice), daughter Kristen (Claire Fisher), grandchildren Jett and Ferris, brother Dan Achtyes and sister Ruth Hager (Terry) as well as dear friends and family. Mary's wonderful sense of humor, kindness, and empathy will not be forgotten.

A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, September 12 at Fuller Avenue Church at 2:00 pm. Visitation from 1-2 pm and from 3-4 pm.
