Mary Kathleen Buist, age 89, of Grand Rapids, passed into the loving arms of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 20, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Gertrude Lammers of Grand Rapids; husband, A. Dale Buist; sister, Kay DeVoogd; and grandson, Hunter Boss. She is survived by her son, Robert (Carol) Buist; daughter, Betsy (Mark) Boss; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave) Huizinga of Kalamazoo, Eric (Kendra) Buist of Seattle, Tyler (Marylynn) Gaastra of Grand Rapids, and Tricia (Brett) VanderHaar of Grand Rapids; and six great-grandchildren with a seventh on the way. Also surviving are her brother, Thomas (Judi) Lammers; brother-in-law, Donald Buist; many nieces and nephews; extended family; and dear friends.

Mary's passion in life was caring for her family and being of service to those around her. She spent many years volunteering at Ronald McDonald House of West Michigan, Spectrum Health Renucci Hospitality House, Beckwith Hills Christian Reformed Church, and Grand Rapids Christian Schools. She lived her faith by exemplifying selfless generosity throughout her life.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 10, at Beckwith Hills Christian Reformed Church, 2100 Chelsea NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505. Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will be at Washington Park Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edison Christian Health or to Faith Hospice.
