Obituary

Mary Ann "Mickey" Donatelli

1/25/1935 - 10/20/2026

Mary Ann "Mickey" Donatelli was born in Columbus, Nebraska to Barney and Dora Micek where the seeds of her faith were first sown, and her competitive athletic skills honed- as one of two daughters among five brothers. She loved life and was a spirited, generous person who loved God and family. She saw beauty in nature, ever commenting on the beautiful- sky, trees, sunset, lake, blue jay or other items displayed on God's canvas. She gave our family an appreciation of the beauty of the outdoors with nature walks, winter sledding, tennis, and golf.

Mary Ann loved her grandchildren and was a cheerleader at all sporting and music events over the years. She always encouraged their interests and especially their relationship with the Lord. Mary Ann was a talented musician, singing and playing piano especially during the holidays. She also enjoyed singing in the church choirs.

The Eucharist, mass and the rosary were staples in Mary Ann's faith walk. Her education included 16 years of Catholic Schools ending with her teaching degree from Quincy College where she met the love of her life. She obtained her Teaching degree and cautiously continued dating Edgar, who took it upon himself to propose to her on day one, with a cigar band, much to her dismay!

Her teaching career began in the Chicago Public School System, followed by Headstart in Grand Rapids, and elementary teaching at St. Andrews and St. Paul the Apostle Schools in GR and in Des Moines Iowa. Every year without a doubt Mom would say, "I really have a neat group of kids this year!" She enjoyed hosting the special night star gazing event and leaf collection projects. She delighted in the creation of school plays and choir presentations, feverishly working till the wee hours of the morning perfecting these for her students to present. She also taught CCD for many years -into her 80's.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edgar, her parents Barney and Dora Micek, siblings Fr. Sylvester Micek, OFM, James and Caroline Micek, Frank Micek and Rita Micek, Chester Micek, Alice Hoff, Nephew Terry Micek, Nieces Janet Kleveland and Karen Maurstad and In-laws Anthony Donatelli, Florian Donatelli, Margaret and Al Rotman, Anna Mae and Bill McCauley, Bob Dvorak and Nephews Scott Dvorak and John Torres.

She is survived by daughters Mary Rose Donatelli-Elliott (Tim) and Elisa Prusko; grandchildren Erik Prusko, Dr. Ryan Prusko (fiancée Dr. Jovana Hanna, Alina Prusko, Sean Prusko, and their father John Prusko; Her brother Jerry Micek (Sheri); and Sister In-law Genevieve Dvorak; many cousins, nieces and nephews; extended family Nhan(Phil)Nguyen, Kristine Phan-Nguyen and their children Erik Nguyen and family, Derek Nguyen and Andrew Nguyen, Snjezana and Ivan Nikolic, Matea Pejic and special friend Ruthie, and Marina Nikolic.

Special thanks to the wonderful Emmanuel Hospice Team - Erica, Beatrice, Andrea, Marcy, who gave our mother peace and comfort, and friend Mary (who lead us along this path of comfort).

Mary Ann's family will greet relatives and friends at St. Paul the Apostle Parish (2750 Burton St SE, 49546) on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10:00 am - 10:45 am. Following visitation, a celebration of Mary Ann's life will be held during a Memorial Mass at St. Paul the Apostle Parish at 11:00 am. Rev. Peter Damian as celebrant.
