Obituary

Marjory Jean Miller Christenson, 88, of Arkansas, went home to be with her Savior and Lord on October 12, 2024. She was born in Hong Kong to Victor and Margaret Barnett and raised in South China as a missionary kid from Wealthy Street Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, MI. Marjory attended high school at Hampden DuBose Academy, near Zellwood, Florida. After high school, she moved back to Grand Rapids where she lived with John and Louise Cederlund while training to be a Licensed Practical Nurse. Then, after attending Grand Valley State College, she became a schoolteacher for Kentwood Public Schools. She taught 3rd grade for nearly 35 years at Glenwood Elementary. Marjory was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was hardworking, thoughtful, and generous. She loved to garden, sew, craft, have guests over for a meal, travel, and help people. Throughout her adult life she maintained a deep love for her Lord, missions, the local church, her family, her students, and those she grew up with in China. Marjory was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack N. Miller, and then her second husband, Robert M. Christenson. She is lovingly remembered by her two children, Kathleen Vander Weide (Kurt) and David Miller (Tina), thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and three stepchildren, Robert B. Christenson, Jennifer (Greg) Wheatley, and Jill (Tom) Miller and their families. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11 AM, with visitation at 10 AM, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton Street SE in Grand Rapids.
