Obituary

Marilyn Lobbes, a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024 at the age of 93. Marilyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alvin. She is survived by her children, Mary (Dave) Bardolph, Carol Lobbes, and Rick (Kristy) Lobbes, her grandchildren, Laura Bardolph, Amy (Liam) Worden, Peter (April), and Patrick Lobbes, and her great-grandchildren, Sam and Lucy Hubers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Agnes Dykwell, brother, Simon Dykwell and sister, Harriet Kilgore.

Marilyn was a graduate of Ottawa Hills High School and was employed as a bookkeeper at Baker Book House before marrying and starting her family. Marilyn's life of service included her role as an area class administrator for Bible Study Fellowship and her participation in the ministry of Family Assistance at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, where she was a member for over 60 years.

Her interests were varied, but one of Marilyn's most enduring passions was her love of books and libraries, which she passed to her children and grandchildren. She was a talented pianist and shared her gift of music in many worship settings, including in the Cook Center at the Holland Home, where she lived out her last years. The Cook Center and Faith Hospice staff members were a kind and constant support to her as her health declined.

Marilyn was laid to rest in a private ceremony, and a memorial service is planned for Monday, May 6 at Calvin CRC (700 Ethel Street S.E., Grand Rapids, MI). Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m. with the service following at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Family Assistance at Calvin CRC or Living Stones Academy, 1415 Lyon NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
