Margaret Esther Groen, affectionately known as Midge to her friends and family, passed away on November 6, 2024, at the age of 96 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born on July 16, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. Her final years were spent battling dementia.

Midge was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Wanda Stob, her husband, Donald A. Groen, her sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and Andy Bos, her daughter, Donna Eckerstrom, and her son-in-law, Jon Cowan. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Wanda Cowan, and son-in-law, Carl Eckerstrom; her loving son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Grada Groen; her cherished grandchildren, Valerie (Bo) Davis, Becky (Erik) Boehm, Kim (Jason) Thompson, Kyle (Jen) Groen, and Emily (Bill) Byl; and her adored great-grandchildren, Owen, Oliver, Jaime, Diederik, Thijs, Jesse, Luke, Isaac, Jude, Jack, and Piper.

Midge found immense joy in spending time with her family, whether it was playing golf near her home on Magician Lake, weekly card games with her children and grandchildren in Grand Rapids, or volunteering at Frederik Meijer Gardens. She enjoyed playing hymns and patriotic songs on the piano.

Traveling with her children and grandchildren brought Midge happiness. She loved every trip, from Florida to Arizona to California and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Homestead in Glen Arbor held a particularly dear spot in her heart, as it was a place of many fond memories with her loved ones.

Midge's legacy is one of enduring love for family and for her Savior. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by her family and the countless lives she touched.

We will celebrate Midge's life with a private family service in Lansing, Illinois. We love you mom, you will be missed.
