Obituary

Les Beimers passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29, 2023, almost 2 months shy of his 102nd birthday. Les was born and raised on a farm in Ada, Michigan, one of nine children. He served honorably in the Navy during World War II. He was later the owner and operator of two auto repair shops and gas stations, and of Beimers Motor Sales. Les liked helping people, which he continued to do until he was no longer physically able. He was the oldest volunteer at New2You Thrift Shop, retiring only recently from his volunteer activities. Les was preceded in death by his parents, his 8 siblings, his first wife, and his 3 daughters: Carol Dezsi, Jan VanStedum, and Judy Lam. Also, by a granddaughter, Sue VanStedum. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evie, and his 2 stepchildren, David (Donna Wisse) Boersma and Jill (Jim) DeVries. Also, by 2 sons-in-law, Louis Dezsi and Gene VanStedum, and by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Les was for many years an avid golfer, even scoring 2 holes-in-one. He loved his summer residence at Gun Lake, which he generously shared with his children, their friends, and grandchildren. Les was a devoted member of Plymouth Heights CRC. Visitation will be at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE) on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 5-8 pm, and a Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 16, 2023 in the Chapel at Raybrook Manor (2121 Raybrook SE) with Rev. Al Gelder officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to the Holland Home Resident Assistance Fund or to Faith Hospice.
