Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Kristine Lynn Kortz, who left us peacefully on December 30th. Though her life presented many challenges, she met each one with a spirit of resilience and an unwavering smile. Kris was a beacon of joy, a reminder of the power of love and positivity, and her legacy will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Kris had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, and she touched countless lives with her warmth and kindness. She found joy in the little things—sending thoughtful greeting cards, caring for the family dogs, Champ and Cowboy, and simply being present with her loved ones. Her love for life was contagious, and she always found a way to brighten any room she entered.

A proud graduate of both Saint Paul the Apostle and Catholic Central High School (Class of 1986), Kris never let obstacles define her. Her perseverance and determination were unmatched, and she proved that no matter the challenge, she could rise above it with grace. She worked at the family business, Krispak, Inc., which is proudly named after her—a testament to the love and admiration her family had for her.

Kris was a passionate sports fan, faithfully supporting the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She also had a love for game shows, never missing an episode of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy from her favorite chair. In her quiet moments, she found joy in doing word searches, a hobby that brought her daily accomplishment.

Though her journey was not without its struggles, Kris embraced life wholeheartedly. Her strength, courage, and ability to find happiness in every moment will be forever remembered. She leaves behind a family and a community who loved her deeply, and whose lives were enriched by her presence.

Kris is survived by her father Gary Kortz, her brother David and sister-in-law Jeanne Kortz, niece Kaleen Holland (Brian), nephews Will Kortz (Kristen), and Ben Kortz. She reunites with Shirley Kortz, her beloved mother and best friend in eternal rest and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Kris's celebration of life will begin with a visitation at Zaagman Funeral Home, located at 2800 Burton St, Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Friday, January 3, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, located at 2750 Burton St, on Saturday, January 4, at 11:00 AM, with an additional visitation at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
