Khen Thi
Vu
May 25, 1936 — May 6, 2026
Khen Vu (Vũ Thị Khen), 91 years old, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on May 6, 2026,
surrounded by her loving family. Khen was born in Đồng Chưa, Gia Viễn, Ninh Bình in Northern
Vietnam. She lost her father at the age of 12, then was forced to leave behind her mother and siblings to
escape communism to Southern Vietnam in 1954. In 1975, shortly after the communist regime took
Southern Vietnam, her husband was tortured in re-education camps; the family lost everything including
their home. Despite many great challenges, she worked extremely hard to provide for her young
children. After her husband was released from the re-education camp, her family was fortunately
allowed to come to Grand Rapids, MI as refugees in 1994.
Khen was preceded in death by two sons, her beloved husband of 68 years, and parents. She is survived
by her three daughters: Hoa (Minh), Dung-Thi, Kim-Anh and her two sons: Hong-Anh (Lang) and Van-Anh;
grandchildren: Kathy (Nick), Staci (Terry), An, Phillip, Mary, Davis, Peter, and Julia; great-grandchildren:
Dylan and Lucy. She will be dearly missed by her brother Trac, sister Ha, brother-in-law Sung, sister-in-law
Som, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Khen was a dedicated third order Dominican, who was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She
attended daily Mass, spent countless hours in Adoration Chapel and reciting Rosaries. Her strong faith
inspired many others to come closer to God and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her faith and hope in God also
radiated through her love for others. Even through difficult times, her gentle smile made everyone who
encountered her feel her love and support. She was admired for her simplicity and modesty, always
being humble. She never spoke about herself, and always put others first. She was so loved and her
memory will live on in our hearts.
A visitation will be held on May 18, from 3 pm-4:30 pm (English- with a Rosary starts at 4:30 pm) and
5:00-6:30 pm (Vietnamese- Prayers and Rosary) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1935 Plymouth
Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506.

Cemetery, 4100 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, MI 49509.
