Kenton Kurth, age 60, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 10th, 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years Sarah Kurth; children Nathan (Theresa) Kurth, and Rachel Kurth; grandchildren Evelyn and Oliver Kurth; parents Phil and Judy Kurth; sisters Kristin (Tim) Koelzer and Kara Kurth Dahnke; brothers-in-law Steve (Heather) Williams, Jody Williams, Brian (Corrie) Williams, and Matt (Melissa) Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
Kenton attended East Lansing High School, graduated from Michigan State University, and received a Master's in Education at Aquinas College. He spent over 20 years teaching students throughout the Comstock Park school system, as well as coaching golf and basketball for many years. Kenton was an avid Spartan fan, had a love for travel, was passionate about history, and was a lifelong golfer. He was also devout in his faith and was deeply involved with several programs within the Catholic Church, including Faith Formation, The Knights of Columbus, The Men's Group, and teaching English as a Second Language.
Kenton was a strong advocate for organ donation, having received a kidney and pancreas transplant five years ago. He felt eternally grateful to his donor Tomis and considered his family to be an extension of his own. Kenton spent his free time volunteering for the Gift of Life program, visiting high schools throughout the state and informing students about the importance of organ and tissue donation. In fact, he will be recognized in April as a recipient of the program's 2021 Champion's Award. He also spent time volunteering with First Tee of West Michigan, where he empowered kids and teens through the game of golf.
Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, March 18, 2022, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE) with a rosary at 7:30PM. A visitation will also be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 10-11AM at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Parish (1253 52nd St. SE, Kentwood, MI 49508) with the funeral mass at 11AM.
