Judith A. Rice, age 82, left this world to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 18, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Rice; sisters, Perthenia Kaekel, Irene Davison, and Yvonne Nye; and brothers, Donald and Alan Rice. She is survived by her dearly loved nieces, Nancy Snoeyink, Pat Durkee, Beth (Bill) Wallace, Judith (Richard) Kusunose, Julie (Dan) Farmer; nephews, Peter (Danielle) Nye, Jerry Nye, Chris Nye, Bob Kaekel and Terry Rice; great nieces, Lauren Snoeyink (Jon Siterlit), Anna Snoeyink, Maggie Nye, Julia (Batu) Gezici, Natalie Nye, Michelle Wallace, Melissa (Andy) Payne and Elizabeth Durkee; as well as sisters-in-law, Charline Rice and Lucy Rice.
Judy graduated from Western Michigan University and worked many years at Butterworth Hospital as an x-ray tech. She would swap stories with the radiologists while hanging out in the department waiting for films to "dry." She eventually retired and got a job administering vision screening tests for elementary students at the Health Department in Grand Rapids.
She had a close group of friends throughout her life and would share stories of her younger years enjoying summers at Myers Lake, water skiing, fishing, archery and goofing around.
In her later years, she enjoyed visits to Panera after strength training which were often led by her brother Al. She also loved "scoring a deal" at New to You Thrift Shop. She would show her love and gratitude to friends and medical and bank staff that she came into contact with by bringing boxed chocolates with her.
Judy was a longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Church.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2750 Burton Street, SE, at 11:00 am on Monday, June 27, 2022, with Fr. Peter Damian as celebrant. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery following the service. Visitation will precede the mass at 10:00 am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of West Michigan.
