Joyce Arlene Kamps, age 87 of Hastings, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Pennock Hospital in Hastings.

Joyce was born December 9, 1934, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She graduated from Byron Center High School. She met the love of her life and husband, Bert while working at her parents' restaurant, The Center Cafe in Byron Center. They married after Bert returned from service in 1955. They led a fun and loving marriage for 39 years until his passing in 1994.

Later Joyce worked at Brann's Restaurant for 28 plus years and absolutely loved her customers and coworkers. She enjoyed golfing, making trips to their hide a way in Baldwin, and family time at her parents' cottage on Green Lake. She loved her family, her friends, her animals, and her chocolate! She was the most giving person you could have the privilege of knowing. She asked for nothing from anyone and was so happy for a visit.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Bert; her parents, Grace and Henry Tornga; and her baby sister, Jane who passed away at age one.

She will be dearly missed by her caring daughter, Cindy (Rick) Esther; her granddaughters, Tessa (Jeff) Stout, Allison Esther; and her great granddaughter, who brought her much Joy, Remington Stout.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11 from 4-6 pm at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids) with a brief memorial service at 6:00 pm. Joyce's family encourages everyone to come share memories and laughter of her incredible life immediately after the visitation and service; a light dinner will be provided. A private family burial will take place the next day.

Joyce absolutely loved all her animals, many who had been adopted from the Barry County Animal Shelter. Consider making a memorial contribution in Joyce's name to your local shelter.

Joyce's laughter, advice and excitement about life will be dearly missed. She would encourage everyone to enjoy every day and to hold your family and friends close.
