Joyce Faass, 85 years young, entered the gates of Heaven, welcomed home by Jesus, her Lord and savior at 5:25 on Tuesday afternoon, February 15. She was born in 1936 in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Theodore and Alvera Bast. Following graduation from Kellogsville High School in 1954 Joyce worked in the office of Diesel Equipment Division of General Motors, Grand Rapids where she met Don the love of her life. She used butterscotch candy strategically placed on her desk so that Don could help himself as he delivered company mail. When Don left Diesel to move to Texas Joyce used her gift of letter writing and her purchased gifts to keep the relationship going while he was in college. Don knew her intentions were getting serious when Joyce flew down to Dallas for a visit in December '55. That lead him to buy an engagement ring which he slipped on her finger as he proposed to her in the moonlight at White Rock Lake in Dallas. Don's summer job in '56 in Grand Rapids brought them together with lots of free time to plan their wedding. That's when Don learned that Joyce was a very organized person. Other than a flat tire and a burned out headlight their marriage on August 31, 1956 got off to a good start. Joyce and Don moved to Texas and back to Michigan in '59 and have remained there ever since. In her working years Joyce worked in the office of various companies and organizations in Texas and Michigan. Joyce was a long time member of Ada Christian Reformed Church. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Theodor and Alvera Bast, siblings Richard Bast, Delores Plumley; Marilyn Mueller and Patricia Noel. She is survived by sister Judy Merrills. Joyce is survived by her husband Donald, her two daughters, nine grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. To Joyce Great Grand Daughters Killian and Kit Arick of Holland, MI were special and were always welcomed with a smile and an invitation to sit beside her in her chair. For many years Joyce loved being a leader of Ada CRC Children's Worship and participating in the Tuesday morning Women's Bible Study at Calvary Church with her good friend Lois Defreese. Her hobbies were sewing, walking with friends and fishing with Don who rowed the boat and taught Joyce how to bait a hook.
