John Groot, 62, of Grand Rapids passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at his home. John was born in 1960 to Andrew and Alice Groot. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Case Groot. John is survived by his husband Gary Jones; his siblings, Alice (John) Rikans, Nick(Sally) Groot, Agnes Schoen, Adriana (Paul) Esch, Linda Kaminski, Mary (Ken) Kieras, Liz Groot; his stepdaughters, Brooke (Justin) Rybicki, Tayler Jones, as well as his African Grey Parrot, Whitney. John was an upholsterer by trade and enjoyed gardening and cake baking. Visitation will be Monday, May 1, 2023 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
