John
Dekker Jr.
Dec 2, 1945 — Mar 5, 2026
John M. Dekker, age 80, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran. He served as a Military Police officer in Vietnam, a role that reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to others.
After his service, John pursued higher education at Kansas State University, where he earned a dual degree in Architecture and Business. He later became involved in the family business as a skilled bookbinder, continuing a tradition of craftsmanship and dedication.
Outside of his work, John found great joy in life's simple and meaningful pleasures. He was an avid fly fisherman who loved spending time outdoors, and he was rarely without a good book. His curiosity, quiet wisdom, and appreciation for nature and learning were hallmarks of the life he lived.
John is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his sons, Chris and Corbin; his daughter-in-law, Kim, wife of Corbin; and his beloved grandchildren, Hailey and Jace. He was a cherished member of his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at Church of the Servant in Grand Rapids, on Monday, March 9th at 11:00AM with a visitation at 10:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Kids Food Basket in John's name.
