John Calvin Datema, a devout Christian, was born on February 9, 1937 and passed away on February 9, 2025, at age eighty-eight.

John attended Grand Rapids Christian High School and joined the National Guard in 1958. He married Cynthia Van Heest on December 5, 1968, and held various positions throughout his career. An active church member, he played a significant role in LaGrave Ave. CRC and volunteered at Mission India and Habitat for Humanity during retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia in 2018. John is survived by his brother-in-law, Darl (Fran) Van Heest, sister-in-law, Lori (Bob) Reits, nephew, Kevin (Sheyla) Curtis, nieces, Robin (Michael) Kelley and Emily Brink as well as great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 16, from 2pm to 4pm at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A funeral service will take place 11:00 am Monday, February, 17 at LaGrave Ave. Christian Reformed Church, 107 LaGrave Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, Mi 49503.
