Joel T.
Roodvoets
Dec 4, 1960 — Dec 16, 2025
Joel Thomas Roodvoets, of Caledonia, Michigan, peacefully left this world for the promise of heaven on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born on December 4, 1960, to Bill and Fran Roodvoets in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ellen (VanAntwerp); his 4 daughters, Lauren Nykamp, Brittany (Brent) Boverhof, Kaylee (Josh) Morgan, and Jordyn (Chris) Salsbury; his 5 grandchildren, Cora, Millie, Lynlee, Tucker, and Julia; his siblings Dan (Kathy) Roodvoets and Julie (Glenn) VanRyn; his in-laws, Ron and Carol VanAntwerp, MaryBeth (Kirk) Nantz, Karen (Jay) Steenhuysen, Mark (Becky) VanAntwerp, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joel was a man of many interests, as his children and grandchildren can readily attest. He enjoyed watersports and spending as much time on the water as possible. He could often be found driving around in his zippy car, target shooting or collecting coins with friends, kids, and grandkids. He was a lifetime college sports fan, with his most recent favorite being the Florida Gators. He took great pride in his family and grandchildren, and led with a bold, gentle faith that was recognized by all who knew him. He will never know the number of lives he impacted, in so many ways: by teaching watersports, being a church praise team soundboard extraordinaire, playing games with his grandkids, teaching catechism and asking the tough theological questions, modeling Christ-like leadership, and always providing "worthless information to clutter your brain." His family finds great peace and joy in knowing that Joel is now in his heavenly home, where he is whole, free from his earthly body, and embraced by the eternal love of Christ.
The family will receive visitors at Caledonia Christian Reformed Church on Sunday, December 21st, from 5:00-8:00pm, as well as on Monday, December 22nd, from 10:00-11:00am. The funeral service will take place at Caledonia CRC following the visitation on Monday, December 22nd at 11:00am. A private interment for the immediate family will be held later that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Hand2Hand program at Caledonia CRC or Dutton Christian School.
