Obituary

JoAnne Elaine Kellogg, age 84 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Born to Frank and Tressa Westveer in Falmouth, MI, JoAnne grew up with a strong sense of independence, compassion, and determination — qualities that shaped both her life and her career. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers and sisters in law, Roger (June) Westveer and Butch (Sharyl) Westveer; and her niece, Amy Westveer Cain.

Known affectionately as "Aunt Jo," she embraced that role with pride. She poured her heart into her family, forming deep, lifelong bonds with her many nieces and nephews: Dan and Lissy Donnelly, Chris and Karen Westveer, Carl and Jennifer Wendell, DJ and Kim Westveer, and Jeremy and Sarah Westveer. She also leaves behind 14 great‑nieces and nephews and five great‑greats, each of whom brought her tremendous joy.

A devoted dog lover, JoAnne never met a dog she didn't adore — and the feeling was mutual. She loved her own dogs fiercely and welcomed other dogs with the same enthusiasm. She also enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and was an avid reader who always had a book nearby.

JoAnne began her early career as a nurse at Blodgett Hospital where she completed her RN. She lived in California for twenty years where she furthered her education and earned a master's degree in public administration with a focus on healthcare. Her natural compassion and steady presence made her a trusted caregiver. After returning to Michigan, she joined Holland Home, where she played a pivotal role in launching both their Home Care program and their Hospice program. Ironically, she moved into the Holland Home system and loved every day, meeting new neighbors and friends. Her work touched countless lives and reflected her lifelong commitment to serving others with dignity and grace.

A memorial service for JoAnne will be held in the summer of 2026.

JoAnne "Aunt Jo" Kellogg will be remembered for her warmth, her independence, and her unwavering love for her family — and for every dog lucky enough to cross her path.
