Janice Ann Brander (Lusk), age 85 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 23, 2023. She is preceded in death by her mother Emily Garretson, father Ralph W Lusk, brother William (Bill) Lusk, and Bill's wife Jane Lusk. She is survived by her sister Marcia Lusk, brother Paul Lusk (Linda), by her children Gregory (Jennifer), and daughter Sara Brander, grandchildren, Joshua, Sydney, and Emmett. She grew up in Columbus, OH and graduated Miami University and Ohio State University. Her father, a member of the Air Force, enjoyed "buzzing" the campus while she attended. She taught elementary school, was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and homemaker, and she worked as a receptionist for a local publishing company. She volunteered in many groups including the Grand Rapids Junior League, Mary Free Bed Hospital Board & Guild, and the Lawyer's Auxiliary. Her smile was quick, as was her opinion, and her strong will helped her navigate life's ups and downs. She always had an ear to listen and a hug to offer. She loved travel, musicals, and the symphony, but most important to her was spending time with her family and friends. There will be a celebration of life gathering 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday August 5th, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
