Obituary

James Russell Wildey, aged 90, a loving, gracious, and faithful man of integrity has left us after a short illness. Jim, a South High and West Point Military Academy graduate, served his country for over 20 years through the Air Force, Army, and Army Reserves. He retired as an executive in the Insurance industry. Some of Jim's hobbies and interests included West Point, the Army/Navy game, marksmanship, golf, traveling, visiting family and friends, and showing love to all. Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family. Known as "Bumpa" to his grandchildren, he loved making things such as cardboard box playhouses, go-carts, and stilts for them. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge, wisdom, and skills with his family, leaving behind a treasured legacy. He will forever remain in our hearts. Jim went home to his Lord on December 26, 2024. He leaves behind three daughters: Sherrie (Tom) Peterson, Karen (Jeff) Goorhouse, and Kim Mastenbrook; nine grandchildren: Mindy Peterson, Tommy (Beth) Peterson, Heather Peterson, Melissa (Brock) Hedegaard, Michael (Rachel) Goorhouse, Jon (Angie) Goorhouse, Meagan Mastenbrook, Michelle Mastenbrook, Mitch (Courtney) Mastenbrook; eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other family members and close friends, each one adding significant meaning to his life. Jim was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Betty L. Wildey; his parents, Russell J. Wildey and Gilleyn M. Blackard; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Dave) Hartigan. The family will celebrate Jim's life with a private graveside service at Rest Lawn Memorial Park (3450 Eastern Ave SE) at a future date.
