Obituary

James William Muller, age 85, known to God from the very beginning, returned to Him on November 7, 2024. Jim was a child of God, a lover of His creation, and a friend to many. He especially loved and was loved by his family who were with him as he celebrated a "new beginning".

Jim was born in Grand Rapids and contributed to the life of his city in many ways. His 40 year career of teaching at Grand Rapids Christian High School informed many young lives about the beauty of God's creation. A gifted teacher who always loved learning, he valued new discoveries in the world around him. In retirement, he volunteered in the life of the city and his community. His involvement with Frederik Meijer Gardens, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, GVSU Annis Water Resources Institute, the Symphonic Chorus and other organizations provided him with many new friendships. Another important focus of his outreach over the last 10 years were the residents of Holland Home/Breton Woods where both he and his wife of 58 years, Millie (TerHorst) Muller spent their final days. Following Millie's death, he continued weekly devotions for the residents and staff to honor her memory. For Jim, family and faith were of ultimate importance. Preceding him in death are his parents William and Dorothy Muller; his son Jon; and wife Mildred. Those surviving and grateful for his presence in their lives are Dawn (Jon's wife); son Joel (Trish) of Castle Rock, CO; and grandchildren Alyssa, Jenna, Lindsey, Rachel and Brett. He also leaves his brother Bruce (Cobie); and nephews Mike (Sheri) and Chris (Leslie). His life will be remembered and celebrated. He will be missed.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 22 at the Breton Ridge Vineyard, 2772 Pfeiffer Woods Dr. SE. The family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service from 12 to 1 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
