Obituary

James William Doezema passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. He was born on December 13, 1932, to James and Mae Doezema (Schuitema).

He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine and siblings, Kathy, John, Bill, and Mary. He is survived by his children: Patti (Mark), Jim (Joan), and Bob (Theresa); his grandchildren, Ian (Kara), AJ (Jenny), Lane, Quinn, Eric (Alisha), Elise (Justin), Jared (Tessa), Reece, Leah, and Marie; his great-grandchildren, Norah, Anson, Mila Heyboer, Jackson, Charlotte Smit, James, John Doezema, Lucy, Rosie Doezema. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bill Gritter, Judy Doezema, Carol Doezema, and Jim Chossen (Cheryl).

James attended Calvin College and Davenport University, which led to a lifelong career in accounting. He worked for Professional Management serving healthcare professionals and retired in 1994.

He was a loving and caring man who cherished his many friendships. He cared deeply for others and shared countless wonderful adventures with friends and family. James enjoyed traveling the world, playing golf, biking, sailing, skiing, spending time at the beach, and of course, playing tennis!!

Family meant everything to him. He was generous with his love, time, and energy, and he raised his family with great devotion and care. He raised us well! He took special joy in getting to know each of his grandchildren, supporting their interests, and, in recent years, delighting in getting to know his growing group of great-grandchildren.

Most importantly, James was a devoted student of the Bible. He continually sought to grow in his understanding of his faith and God's Word. He was deeply spiritual and found great peace in the assurance that he was headed to heaven.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Private interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Jim's memory can be made to Grand Rapids Christian Schools and Calvin University.
