James "Jim" Devries' Obituary
Jim DeVries, age 83 departed to his heavenly home to meet his Lord and Savior peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Marian (Kunz) and their children, Mike and Marla DeVries, Susan DeVries and Eric Glashouwer. His grandchildren, Morgan and Dan Bream, Jared DeVries, and Nathan DeVries and fiancée Kaley Konjarevich were so special to him. Jim's great-grandchildren, Bellamy and Jonah Bream, also brought him so much joy. He is survived by his brother Jan and Pat DeVries, sister-in-law Janet VandeKopple, loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Following high school, Jim served in the United States Navy. After being discharged from the military, he was known as a man of many trades. Jim was gifted with a beautiful voice, loved managing his rental properties, and coffee time at Van's Bakery with his friends was a highlight of his day. He took comfort in the Heidelberg Catechism's Q&A 1. He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Jeanette, his brother Jack and sister-in-law Greta, and brother-in-law Harold VandeKopple. Services will be held on Friday, August 26 at Shawnee Park Church, 2255 Tecumseh SE Grand Rapids, MI. Visitation prior from 9:30-11:00 am with the service at 11:00 with Pastor Darrin Compagner officiating with a luncheon to follow. A private interment will be held at Rest Lawn Memorial Park. Any memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Christian Services or Shawnee Park Church/Philippine Project.
