Helen Daining, age 96, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, August 2, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Jeanette Vander Werp; her husband, Robert Daining; her daughter, Devi Fongers; her brothers, Gordon, George, and Russ Vander Werp; and her sisters-in-law, Carolyn, Lynn, Kay and Norma Vander Werp. Helen leaves behind her sons, Douglas (Janice) Daining, David (Jane) Daining; son-in-law, Jim Fongers; 10 wonderful grandchildren; and 9 awesome great grandchildren. Helen was action. She met her husband to be, Bob, while ice skating. Together they played golf and tennis into their 70's. She loved swimming and diving. Helen would tackle any home project. She tailored clothes for the boys in the family and sewed outfits and dresses for all the girls and their dolls. She converted shirts into fashionable aprons and old jeans into purses. She canned everything from pears to pickles. She enjoyed volunteering at Calvin CRC's Family Assistance Program and at New-2-You. A few months before her death she stated she wanted to get a job so that she could be useful. More than anything she enjoyed helping others. If there was a job to be done, she wanted to help you with it. Helen was a blessing. Helen was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. We love you. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 5 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE), with Rev. Kelly Buist officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends one hour prior to the service.
