Harold
Van Eerden
Aug 18, 1950 — Feb 26, 2023
Harold Van Eerden went to his eternal home in heaven on February 26, 2023, at the age of 72. Harold was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Grand Rapids Christian Schools and then went on to graduate from Calvin University.
He joined the family business, Van Eerden Foodservice, in 1972 managing produce sales. He guided the company as COO, overseeing operations, sales and purchasing until his retirement. He was instrumental in the continued evolution of the company's growth of being a broadline food distributor. Harold was never one to boast about his accolades and accomplishments, but his family will remember him for the legacy of a founding member of PRO-ACT. Harold created roots within his community and was committed to quality and possessed deep industry knowledge that the family is proud to share. Harold's love for his family, the company, employees, and friends were evident in all he did and he was truly a blessing to all who knew him.
Harold was never too busy or too important to serve. He had a heart for Christ. Harold gladly gave of his time and resources to organizations that advanced Gods kingdom such as Grand Rapids Christian Schools, Christian Reformed Conference Grounds, Bible Study Fellowship and 4Streams. (4Streams mission is pointing men to Jesus Christ as the answer to Man's Search for purpose and life.) He was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship for 18 years. This was a main passion in life, especially after his retirement. Throughout his life he enjoyed golf, boating, hiking, and traveling with his family and friends. Harold made friends wherever he went. Harold a godly man, lived so expressively grateful to be living in God's presence. He acknowledged, even to the end, the amazement of blessings on earth so richly received.
He finished strong a race well run. His family has peace and comfort as they know he joins his parents, Jack and Katie Van Eerden, and father and mother in law, Harland and Henrietta Schievink in Heaven. He will be deeply missed by his dearest sweetie, Susan Van Eerden. She shares wonderful memories and enduring appreciation for Harold's full and blessed life with their children, Becky (Eric), Jacki (Jason), Chris, and Mike (Casey); five grandchildren, Ben, Elise, Connor, Henry, and Eden; who already know and will hear of Pa's legacy of godliness, selflessness, faithfulness, and devotion to his family. They all have fortified strength of character and faith from his steadfast example and kind spirit. Harold is also survived and dearly missed by siblings, Mary Carol (Jim) Rosema, Andrew (Dianne) Van Eerden, Clifford (Suzanne) Wright, Daniel (Ann) Van Eerden, sister in law, Jude (Bob) Walters, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
A service will be held remembering his life on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 12:00pm at Alger Park Christian Reformed Church, 2655 Eastern Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Stephen De Wit officiating. Visitation will be held at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, from 4-8pm and at church on Wednesday from 11:00am to 12:00pm prior to the service.
