Obituary

Gregoria (Nora) Moore was born on November 28th, 1938, in Havana, Cuba to Atilano Barreiro, a merchant marine and Maria Josefa Fragoso. Orphaned at age 8, she was adopted by her aunt Ignacia Barreiro. On October 26, 1955, at age 17 she immigrated to the United States where she lived with her Uncle Anastacio in Manhattan, NY (Harlem) then eventually moved to Brooklyn where she lived with her Grandmother Marcelina and family.

Nora was scholarly. In August of 1961 she completed her training as a Laboratory Technician at the Manhattan Medical Assistants school. She obtained her U.S. citizenship shortly after in 1962. In 1959, she met the love of her life, Miguel Moore, and they married on September 15, 1963. Led by the desire to raise their 2 young sons in a safer environment, they moved from Brooklyn, New York to Grand Rapids, Michigan where Miguel's twin sister, Martha Walwyn, was living at that time. Nora and Miguel fell in love with the smaller, quieter, and safer city, which she found perfect to raise their four children (Javier, Arnoldo, Milton and Leyda).

Nora worked as a dedicated and loving caregiver not only for her own children and Aunt Ignacia, but also for her nieces and nephews, including Lorelei, Margarita, Andre, Mark and Paul; all treasure fond memories of their sweet Tia Nora. Later she worked outside the home, opening two restaurants alongside Miguel, Noemi and Fausto. Many will remember Nora at New York Pizza House on Sabbath evenings full of joy. Nora also worked for Steelcase, Inc. where she retired as a welder in 2001 after many years of service. A few years after her retirement from Steelcase, Nora and Miguel moved to Mount Dora, FL but their love for Michigan led them to eventually moved back.

Nora was devoted to Jesus and her faith was consistently strong. Her and Miguel sought God's guidance throughout their 60 years of marriage. Together they were founders of several Spanish Seventh Day Adventist churches in West Michigan. Having held many positions at the churches, she was most passionate about teaching the youngest of children about the love of Jesus Christ as a Sabbath schoolteacher in the Cradle Roll class. Acts of service was her love language. Without hesitation, Nora would always help those in need and constantly saw the best in others. She was a gracious host. Their home was full of guests every single Sabbath with delicious meals and a warm welcome. We will miss Nora's presence here on earth but look forward to the glorious resurrection morning where we will be reunited.

Nora is survived by her beloved husband Miguel of 60 years, children Javier (Yvette), Arnoldo (Yaritza), Milton and Leyda; grandchildren Michael, Ruben (Lindsay), Aniza, Sayra, Karina, Alejandro, Alexis, Roberto and Gabriel; great grandchildren Jason and Nora, and many more dear family members.
