Obituary

Rietema, Grace, age 97, was welcomed into the loving arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, on February 18, 2022. Grace was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Dirk and Anna Kwantes. Grace grew up working for her parent's business, Kwantes Holland Goods, which had three prominent locations in Grand Rapids. She attended Grand Rapids Christian High and was a faithful member at Shawnee Park Christian Reformed Church. Grace embodied her namesake. She was beautiful in every stage of her life. Her sense of humor brought joy and laughter to many, but her sympathetic ear was one those closest to her cherished the most. She loved her church, bible studies, gathering with friends and family over coffee and cookies, and coming alongside those in need. She was a faithful wife and mother and her duties as matriarch of the family were one of her greatest accomplishments. Her long-lasting marriage to the love of her life, Ben, came to an end last summer after 73 years of marriage. We are so thankful for all the years they were able to spend together and find peace in knowing they have been reunited in heaven. In her final days, she found solace in her favorite verse, "You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73: 24-26. Grace is survived by her 4 children Rodney (Ardith) Rietema, Carole (Brian) Wechsler, Donald (Janet) Rietema, and Anne (Mark) Elve; her 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 24, 11:00 am at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St SE Grand Rapids, Michigan). Friends may meet with the family one hour before the service. Immediately following the service, the family invites everyone for a light luncheon. You may also view a livestream of the funeral service by visiting www.vimeo.com/zaagman. In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider a donation to Faith Hospice or Holland Home.
