Gertrude
Nagelkirk
Sep 9, 1925 — Jun 7, 2025
Gertrude "Gert" Nagelkirk, 99, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on June 7, 2025. Gert was born on September 9, 1925, in Detroit, MI to Jacob and Elizabeth Keegstra. Gert and her five siblings were raised in Dutton and Grand Rapids, MI. She graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1943 and married in 1950. Gert created a warm and nurturing home for her husband of 64 years, Ren, and their three daughters, Darlene, Diane and Rosemary. She cherished visits from her two granddaughters, Karen and Jill. Her family will forever remember her love and support.
Gert enjoyed vacationing, gardening, reading, playing cards, cooking, baking, and taking walks. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends and fostering a welcoming environment. She loved hosting gatherings and dinner parties for her diverse group of friends. Her homemade apple, peach and blueberry pies were legendary, and her birthday and holiday gatherings were eagerly anticipated by family and friends alike. Gert's listening ear and sensible advice made her a confidante to many and resulted in friends from all ages and walks of life. She had a steadfast faith in God and a strong work ethic, both reflected in her character and her life-long desire to lend a helping hand and to volunteer at charitable organizations.
Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Renald J. Nagelkirk and daughter Karen Kay Nagelkirk. She is survived by her; older sister, Fan Keegstra; children, Darlene (Jim) Lenters, Diane Nagelkirk (Dr. Juli Wemmer), Rosemary (Phil) Tymes; grandchildren, Karen (Dan) Shaffer, Jill (Jason) Gunderson; great-grandchildren, Ellie Shaffer, Lucy Shaffer, Lincoln Gunderson, Colton Gunderson; nieces and nephews, Mary (John) Calsbeek, Ron (Shirley) Gruizenga, Nancy (Glen) Gelderloos, Ken (Sue) Keegstra, Mary Keyes, Norma (Dave) Alles, Wayne (Ruth) Keegstra, Bruce (Nancy) Keegstra, Ann Keegstra, Michelle Keegstra; sister-in-law, Thelma Snoeyink.
